RC Flying Rules

Effective 1st August 2015 the New Zealand CAA rules for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, which includes model planes of all types , have changed.

For the most part the changes are minor and don’t significantly affect hobbyists. But there is one big change. You now need the permission of the land owner or occupier and everyone below before flying. This affects everywhere except previously existing MFNZ registered club sites. It does affect parks and public spaces as well as private property.

The new rules are in two documents; AC101-1 and AC102-1.
