I use the TV as a computer screen. This means I need a wireless keyboard and mouse that work out to about 3 meters. I tried a few cheap ones but they all gave out at about 1-2 meters and an unreliable keyboard is about the most annoying thing I’ve discovered so far.
Eventually I decided to that the solution would have to cost a few $$ and bought a Logitech Wave pro keyboard and mouse for about NZ$180 that was advertised to work out past 6 meters range; a very expensive keyboard in my opinion. Well, the mouse range was absolutely useless, less than 1.5 meters totally unusable. Luckily I had another Logitech mouse that worked with the same receiver to about 2 meters in some spots. The keyboard also only works to about 1.5 meters in selected spots. I tried all the usual stuff; turning things off relocating and re-orienting the receiver but nothing would improve the range or coverage.
Now the worst thing about this keyboard is that the keys don’t move smoothly. If you hit them slightly off center they bind and miss the keystroke. I’ve had $10 junk keyboards that don’t have this problem. This is my most expensive keyboard ever and also by far the worst for basic usability
Don’t by a Logitech Wave keyboard. It’s not worth the value of the packaging..
Update 31-May-2011:
The POS Wave Keyboard is no more.
While sorting through a maze of “pain in the but” user names and passwords and trying to enter a new password where all I could see was dots, the sticky keys of the Wave and resulting typos caused a technical failure of the keyboard. I think I’ll return it to Logitech.
Update to Update:
I won’t be returning it as it appears they don’t have an office in NZ.
I’m now using an old, standard layout, $10, USB keyboard on a extension lead across the room and it’s working fine. It’ll take a bit to get used to the standard key layout again. I’d like another wireless keyboard but it will be a standard layout, low cost import direct from China.
Looking at the Logitech-NZ site there is a contact link at the bottom of the page. There’s an email address for Marketing and a another link for “Customer Support – Email Us”. Typical of these crap companies it’s not an email link or address but a link to a web page where you can create an account and log in. WTF. Why should I have to create an account (another F^%$#&g user name and password) to contact them about a keyboard. It’s a keyboard not a F&^%$#g space shuttle.
