Site Rules

Simple really: Keep it relevant, Keep it clean

  1. Comments and some links that are relevant are welcomed.
  2. Comments etc. must be relevant. No links to anything unrelated.
  3. No unrelated advertising. If it’s your own specific related product then a link or reference is probably OK and I can approve it.
  4. If a comment or link adds little or nothing to the topic and is apparently advertising a product or site, it will be deleted.
  5. User accounts created to post adverts will be deleted.
  6. No obscene language or personal attacks. Remember that everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if it is wrong in your opinion.
  7. Any forum comment that is deemed by the site owner/administrator to be not positively contributing to the discussion will be deleted from the discussion (to the junk store).

Registering – Login

Registering or Logging-In is not required to browse this site or to purchase product.

Update: At times due to the spammers trying to create accounts, account creation and login may be restricted.  Attempts to login receive a Access Denied  message from the server.  The contact form still works and you can leave comments on some posts and some pages.  This will be reviewed from time to time.

If you would like an account but don’t have a verified OpenID, send me a message and I will create an account for you.

Registering will make you a subscriber (whatever that means :)). To do anything useful you will have to let me know what you want to do and I can upgrade you to Editor, Author or Contributor etc.

I have to approve your first comment or contribution before it will appear. So there may be a delay. After that your comments appear pretty much immediately.

Note to spammers: There is no point trying to register. As a subscriber you cannot post adverts. Registrations that are incomplete or random looking will be deleted.

Note to Marketing “professionals”:  NOT INTERESTED – the email you send is immediately classified as spam and dumped.  I will not support or pay anyone to “increase site traffic” or whatever you want to call it.  The internet should ideally operate naturally with content drifting towards the top based on its own merit – not because some marketing company is scamming the system or spamming.

Comments

You must have a previously approved comment before your comments will appear immediately. This just means your first comment won’t appear right away; I will have to approve it which may take a day or so.

Feel free to make relevant comments wherever allowed and even link to your related web site or blog. Comments that just say something along the lines of “great post” and have a link to a unrelated web site will be deleted.

Item 7. above: Reasoning: The aim of this rule is to eliminate short posts of emotional opinion that come from all sides of a discussion and inflame others but add nothing to the body of discussion. Opinion is welcome and will not be edited but must be structured, explained, polite to all involved, and add to the overall discussion.

Spam Comments

There are a lot of spammers out there who only want to place comments that contain adverts and links to junk sites. Many try to make them look like valid comments – it doesn’t work.

There are also far too many offering increased traffic. But what sort of traffic is it? My bet is that it’s volume without quality and completely unrelated to the site. So I don’t want it.

These spammers are not welcome. Their comments that get through the automated filtering are deleted as soon as possible. If a spammer is persistent enough I block their address or a block of addresses. This may mean that their neighbours also cannot access the site; but given the technical nature of the site, low traffic volume and the countries that are mostly affected…. that’s just too bad.  Blocks stay in place for 6 months or so.
