Installed WordPress. Started with v2.5. Tried to change themes but didn’t work; got a error, something to do with not found in line “who gives a crap”; too hard. Searched update process to v2.9. Looked easy enough and 2 hours larter it was done but couldn’t find MYSQL details. Sorted with the help of MySQLAdmin. Update.php wouldn’t run so went back to install.php which quit complaining about existing database entries. Edit install.php so that it didn’t check and it ran to completion with a few warnings about the existing database entries. But; WTF it worked. Tried new theme again – failed again but with different error. Time to give up for now.
Paul
Agreed.
– I’ve been using admin because I could not remember my pmb-nz password. I have now reset the password and as long as Firefox keeps track of it we should be right.
– Good point. At the time I was not thinking of others replying; just a personal comment that almost flowed on from the initial topic.
Another couple of wordpress/blogging hints…
– a good thing to do is change your user name from ‘admin’ to something like paul or pmb… so we know that when you post… it is actually you 😉 WordPress is nice in that it can change the main username from ‘admin’ to whatever you like – other software often has ‘admin’ hardcoded as the main user.
– also – when blogging… there is nothing wrong with writing short sections – if you have two ‘not very related’ things to say at the same time, just make them separate posts. This makes categorizing easier to follow and encourages people to respond i.e. they may have something to respond to part A, but not part B of a longer post – they are more likely to respond if they are responding to an entire, albeit shorter post.
PMB, you can’t have two users with the same email address, I have set up another user for myself as a contributor using another email address.
